I’m just starting reading this book, and already it has provided some useful tips. I still have more to read. It seems to be very thorough in how it covers different topics.

This is the only federal career guide written by a current federal professional; all of the others are written by people who have never worked for the government or are long retired. And, oh what a difference Lily Whiteman's insider experience makes!

Her book is uniquely complete and accurate -- chock full of insights, instruction and guidance that is available nowhere else. Lily Whiteman’s book was invaluable. Not only for federal jobs, but as a contractor, I found the book to be of incredible help. I was going in circles, writing and re-writing my resume, always ending up with the same product. With the guidance in this book, I was able to ask the right questions of myself, to finally write a resume that is more focused and definitely less typical of the resumes that, as a manager, I have received from potential employees. I now feel that I have less of a chance of ending up in the “circular file.” Tips such as quoting other peoples’ opinions of me, as you would find in a movie review, were particulary clever.

If I wanted a folksy book on humor, I’d buy one. I don’t. ‘Oodles of internships…”

I take the business of getting a job in government seriously. I looked at this book

and decided not to recommend it. It is not worth the money. Unless you want a folksy book on humor, and to not get a job or go through the serious and sometimes painful work of getting a federal career.
