What Is The Proper Way To Send A Cover Letter And Resume Through Email?

Do I add the “cover letter” in the body of the email? or do I include the cover letter and resume as one document with multiple pages as an attachment?
If:
1. The instructions say “resumes only”
2. The instructions don’t say “resumes only”
Thanks for the input

I’m an HR Manager… I would suggest BOTH. The reason I say that is because if you say something “catchy” in your cover letter and your letter is visible as soon as the e-mail is opened, you might get noticed. When I print resumes, I do it in bulk and I scan them quickly. Maybe start your letter with “What makes me different?” in bigger, bolder letters – and ofcourse with an honest answer… you might get noticed! With all the job seekers right now, we get TONS of resumes for posted jobs. Then, when everything is printed, your resume and letter also get printed as attachments and look nicer than a printed e-mail. Good luck!

The cover letter is like the icing on a cake. Leverage the cover letter to emphasize again your main skills and experience that matches with the needs of the job. In today’s job race, you’ve to lead the rest of the applicants to achieve success. And, a cover letter can be a great marketing tool to accomplish your goals.
So, include a cover letter in both item #1 and #2 of your question above.
Write a strong summary of your credentials in your resume that it kindles the interest of the recruiter to read your resume and that has a potential to get the interview call.
