I’m applying for a position at Starbucks and after reading a few websites and books about writing resumes, I’ve decided that I need to write the perfect resume, one that will catch the reader’s eye very shortly upon skimming over what I had to write. If you have worked at Starbucks, do work at Starbucks now, or have interviewed with them and written a resume for the company, PLEASE reply.

I think that it would be best to have someone professional write it for you. That’s what I did when I first started applying to jobs and it made a difference. Though I didn’t have as much experience, my resume looked professional and was easy to read. I used University Language to write mine. They’re not as expensive as some other resume-writing companies and did a great job with mine. Good luck!
As with any resume, you will want to keep it accomplishment focused and direct. Make it easy for the reader to pull out the necessary information quickly by using short, action-oriented bullet points.
Starbucks, like many corporations, has a very unique corporate culture. Here is a brief list of some of things you will want to speak to in your resume. Try to use specific examples when ever possible:
- Customer Service – How have you created outstanding customer experiences?
- Community Involvement – Volunteerism, and giving back are BIG components of the store environment.
- Team Work – How have you worked with a group of people to increase speed of service or ensure outstanding customer service?
- Process Oriented – Have you had to learn a new system in your other positions. Where you able to pick up the system quickly?
Those are just a few ideas to get you started.
One thing that will certainly help, is if you can make your schedule as open as possible. I know Starbucks Store Managers can have a difficult time finding people who have relatively open schedules. This would certainly move you to the front of the line.
Best of luck!
If you’re applying for a retail position, you want to make sure to focus on the skills that are important for the job.
Play up and foodservice / customer service / retail jobs you’ve had. If you’re looking for a supervisor / manager job, try to focus on leadership positions that you’ve had, regardless of the context.
It helps if you show a passion for coffee and tea, also.
