What Type Of Restaurant Would You Need A Resume?

I am looking to apply at possibly Olive Garden or Fridays. Do I need a resume? I know its not a high-end restaurant, but I live in a college town and the competition is high.
If I write a resume, should I include how much in tips I made per night at the restaurant I worked at in high school and while I was in community college? I worked at a steak n shake and made really good tips. My friend said including this on a resume would show I was a good waitress.
